Riverside Banner ARTventure

The biggest outdoor art exhibit and fundraiser ever held in Riverside!

Keep  your eyes open as you drive down Central Avenue and Van Buren Avenue
and see our beautiful banners!

Banner Project
The Plaza Wants Our Banners!

We are pleased to announce that the 112 beautiful art banners will have a life beyond the “street”!  The Riverside Plaza has offered to display the banners in their parking lot after the show along Van Buren Blvd. and Central Avenue is over. In this way we will have a few more months to enjoy all the art and the sponsors will get a few more months of exposure.  Because the banners will be condensed in a smaller space, they will be very effective as a “show”.

Thank you to the Riverside Plaza for their interest in the banners and keeping them alive a little longer!

Banner Project
Wraps Up with
 City Council Compliments!

On July 14, 2009 the City Council recognized the Art Alliance of the Riverside Art Museum as Arts Honoree of the Month due to their successful community arts projects, including The Giant Orange, Canstruction© and the Banner Project (Riverside Banner ARTventure). Patrick Brien, Riverside Arts Council Director, spoke about the Art Alliance and its history and awarded us a plaque commemorating our success. A slide show of the Banner Project was displayed for the audience, as well. President Selina B. and other Art Alliance members were present to hear the kind words. This was a nice compliment for the Art Alliance as the Banner Project winds down.

You can still see the banners in their second locations around town. They will remain along Van Buren Boulevard and Central Avenue until the start of October when they will be removed and returned to their sponsors.

It is not an exaggeration to say that hundreds of thousands of people have driven by our “art show” and observed the art on display along our streetscapes. In addition, it was financially successful in a time of serious economic instability. For these reasons, the Art Alliance should feel very proud of the success of this project.

As the year progresses, we will be looking at ways to make “small” garden banners and use the beautiful art images in a variety of fundraising efforts. Many thanks to the Banner Committee and to all our members who made this a successful venture.

What is the Riverside Banner ARTventure?
The ‘Banner Project’ is a community event, an outdoor art exhibit and a fundraiser all rolled into one!  It will be the largest outdoor experience of artwork that Riverside has ever seen!  Over 300 banners, each created from an original work of art by local artists, will hang from city streetlights from the Downtown area to UCR to Arlington. Sponsors will have the opportunity to choose how many banners they wish to underwrite and on which work of art they wish to have their name attached.  Artists will have their artwork enlarged and placed on vinyl banners throughout the city.  In the spring there will be an exhibit of banner artwork and an art auction, the proceeds of which will go towards the programs of the non-profit Riverside Art Museum.

Who is organizing this?
The Art Alliance of the Riverside Art Museum - the same group that brought you the ‘Giant Oranges’--- is coordinating this event.  The Art Alliance is an organization of 200 members who focus on raising visibility as well as funds for the museum.

When will the Riverside Banner ARTventure take place and how long will it last?
The event will begin in March 2009, but sponsors and artists are being approached right now!  Artists must submit pieces for consideration by December 15, 2008, and sponsors will have a first-come-first-served chance to choose art, based on their entry as sponsors.  Banners will be visible throughout the spring and into the summer of 2009.

How do I go about sponsoring a banner?
Simply click on the link below and fill out the enclosed form in the packet, indicating the level of sponsorship and the locations in which you would be interested and we will be glad to follow up with you!  Read this packet!  There are many benefits to sponsoring, and we would love to have your participation!

Banner Project Launched in Community

Sponsors and artists are now being aggressively sought for the banner project!
Please get the word out!

What may turn out to be the largest outdoor art exhibit in Riverside’s history is now underway! The Riverside Banner ARTventure, the Art Alliance spring project, will involve hundreds of artists and sponsors, create art banners along three major Riverside avenues, and literally expose thousands of participants to our “outdoor museum” on a daily basis. But we need help from the Art Alliance membership!

Please tell everyone you know about the project!  Banner sponsorships begin at just $650, and we need at least 100 sponsorships to make this a truly memorable project. If you know of someone who might be interested, please call Kathy Allavie and let her know. She will be happy to follow up with them. We will be recruiting sponsors for the next four months only, so don’t delay!

We need artists who are willing to do an original piece of art that is transferred onto vinyl banners to be hung in many parts of our city! Artists will be given a show at the Riverside Art Museum and then each piece will be auctioned off to raise funds for RAM. Professional and student artists are being contacted. If you know of an artist who might be interested, please call Denise Kraemer.

The project has been endorsed by the City of Riverside, the Downtown Riverside Partnership, the Arlington Business Partnership and UCR. (Thank you to Councilman Gardner, Ward One, for his help in getting through all the city red tape!)

What Can You Do?

Please don’t think a project of this magnitude happens by itself! Help the museum by helping with this project! Come to the next Banner Meeting and help in any number of areas---from the art auction event to writing thank-you notes! Plus, we are a fun group!
